SAN DIEGO ? Gun-toting, 31st-century superhero Rocket Raccoon will rip up the silver screen in Guardians of the Galaxy, a previously rumored movie project that Marvel Studios confirmed Saturday at Comic-Con International.

The galactic superhero group, which was created in 1969 by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan (and was rebooted in 2008 by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning), has featured multiple characters over the years, but the lineup for the movie will be: Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora, according to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. Marvel did not name a director for Guardians of the Galaxy, which is scheduled for release Aug. 1, 2014.

Also at the Iron Man 3 Comic-Con panel, Feige, the chief architect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, nailed down key details about two other movies at the top of the studio?s slate.

? Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) will direct Thor: The Dark World, which will be released Nov. 8, 2013.

? The Russo brothers (You, Me and Dupree) will direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier, due April 4, 2014. (?Ed Brubaker?s head just blew up,? said panel moderator Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex when the title was confirmed.)
